About
Aluu Prosper Chigozie (b. 1999) is a Nigerian contemporary artist whose practice centers on Abfillage, a distinctive technique he developed that merges abstraction, figuration, and collage. His works are layered with newspapers, photography, and paint, materials he carefully selects from his immediate environment to anchor each piece in time and place. Through this method, Prosper preserves cultural memory while interrogating how personal and collective histories intersect, overlap, and at times, conflict.
Since committing fully to his practice in 2017, Prosper has exhibited widely in Nigeria and abroad. He has held solo exhibitions at Alliance Française, Lagos, and TAC Gallery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and participated in international group shows such as Découvertes at LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery, Côte d’Ivoire. His works also feature in the collection of Fondation Société Générale Côte d’Ivoire. In 2024, he was selected as one of the top 15 finalists for the Kuenyehia Prize and completed a residency at Villa Karo in Grand-Popo, Benin Republic.
Prosper views Abfillage as both a visual language and an archival process, one that reimagines fragments of the past while questioning present realities. His practice extends beyond aesthetics, offering audiences layered narratives that resist erasure and invite reflection on identity, culture, and memory.
