This uniquely executed piece of art with dimensions of 14inches by 14.5inches marks the beginning of a new body of works which documents and preserves stories of the Nigerian and African people using newspaper collage on canvas. Rather than stacking newspapers which can serve as an evidence of some part of Nigerian and African history and then burning them sometime in the future, these papers are attached to canvasses which are painted on, hence these stories are intact and still considered relevant in the future. As this marks the beginning of these body of works, this piece titled a patriot Journalist acknowledges the importance of a journalist in documenting stories which will then become history as it is their duty to collect/gather information in form of text, audio, or pictures, processes them into a news-worthy form, and disseminates it to the public.
I now take the responsibility as an Afrocentrism artist to make sure these stories are not lost, but beautified as art.
