The Abfillage technique, introduced by Prosper in 2022, involves the application of a newspaper or magazine collage as a background, onto which he paints expressive figures. The purpose of Abfillage, according to Prosper, is to preserve written stories and showcase their relationship to the painted figures. Using saturated colors, Prosper aims to mollify negative narratives in the background, highlighting the importance of preserving culture through creative expression.
“Every element of these works is put together to describe the idea of Afrocentrism and pan-Africanism,” says Prosper. “I believe that to preserve culture, I must continue to create it.”
