This work functions as a hinged triptych that opens and closes like a window, positioning identity as something revealed through access rather than permanently on display. At its center is a distorted self-portrait constructed from Nigerian newspapers, situating the artist within the social, political, and informational textures of his home country. The fragmentation of the image reflects a self shaped by constant mediation assembled from what is read, absorbed, and lived. Flanking the central panel are masks from Ivory Coast and Benin Republic, countries the artist has physically visited. These elements mark moments of encounter rather than inheritance, acknowledging influence without assimilation. Together, the materials form a personal geography of movement across West Africa, where identity is not fixed by origin alone but accumulates through presence and experience. the piece echoes historical hinged panels while reconfiguring revelation as contemporary and biographical.
